Do we have any longboarders in the house?

I have been contemplating on buying a long board for quite some time now. I was able to ride around on my friends a bit the other day and I am almost positive I want one now..

So if anyone here has any knowledge on buying I would appreciate some help :s

But I read that the longer it is the more difficult it is to turn and is mainly used for hardcore downhill. Now to start I obviously just want one to cruise around but eventually I will want to get more into. So I guess I am looking for like an intermediate board. Just wonder but out of those top boards, what would be the best buy for a newbie?
If none of those, any suggestions?

To be honest, I do a different type of Long Boarding.. But you already know this.
