Kidomaru is an excellent tactical analyzer, capable of figuring out his enemy's weak point quickly and efficiently, and also enjoys playing with his enemies before he kills them. He seems to prefer fighting from a distance, lending him a considerable advantage and allowing him to avoid close-combat. Close combat is his worst type of fighting.

Sakon and Ukon enjoy bad-mouthing the opposition. Orochimaru notes Sakon to be the fastest and strongest member of the Sound Four, traits Sakon is very proud of. When in battle Sakon likes to prolong the fight by toying with the opponent and use unnecessarily powerful techniques. This tendency of Sakon's causes him to slow down the rest of the group whenever he gets interested in an opponent. Ukon is able to counteract this flaw by being more impatient and hasty than his brother, forcing Sakon to quickly end his battles.

The only kunoichi in the Sound Five, she has a foul mouth, and she's ill tempered but she is very powerful. Her main weapon is her flute which she uses genjutsu with, and can summon three demons called Doki which she can command to fight for her. She's smart and can think of good battle strategies. Tayuya may be foul mouthed but she is very loyal to Orochimaru. She thinks of Shikamaru as a weak rat who runs when her beasts attack him. Unlike other Sound Five members, she has some perception of morals, scolding Shikamaru for risking four men to rescue one and asking him if he is thinking rationally. Tayuya is the only member of the Sound Four that actually uses sound as a weapon; her main weapon is a flute, and with it she can control her Doki. Tayuya is very intelligent and can think of excellent strategies. This was prominent enough for Shikamaru to recognize her as the closest thing yet of all his past opponents to his equal in making strategies. According to Shikamaru, she would probably also "be very good in shogi (Japanese chess)". Shikamaru also says that if he played chess against her it would be like playing without a rook or bishop. She can also perform genjutsu, what she called Demonic Flute: Dream Sound Chain. Her preference for sound-based, long-range combat with her flute makes her vulnerable to close-range combat. When in Level 2 cursed seal form, her hair grows longer, her skin turns dark brown, and she grows several horns on her head. She also gains immense strength, which allows her to overcome even Shikamaru's various shadow jutsu. She was almost successful at defeating Shikamaru Nara, but Temari comes to his aid. Temari kills Tayuya with Summoning Technique: Whirlwind Dance, uprooting most of the forest and crushing her under a tree.

The 5th member of the Sound Five, and also the most powerful. His abilities exceed that of the Sound Four combined. Kimimaro's name translates to "One who is without equal", with "kimi" meaning "without equal, and "maro" meaning "I/Myself". It seems to be a reference to his nearly invincible fighting prowess. Kimimaro was the last survivor of the Kaguya clan. The Kaguya clan was killed by the Hidden Mist when the Kaguya clan attacked for no reason other than for the thirst of battle, Kimimaro was the only one left standing. Orochimaru labeled Kimimaro as the strongest of his clan, because of his deadly abilities that the clan feared. Proof of this fear they locked up Kimimaro into a cell where he remained for the remaindor of his life, and was only released when the clan fought battles. Soon after Orochimaru found him, and Kimimaro was one of his most loyal servants. Even though he belongs in a clan that slays, kills, slaughters, he was never too violent since he never really knew about the outside world. Therefore, he only fought for his clan, and being needed by someone was what he truly dreamed for(Until he meets Orochimaru, where his desires change to serving him and ensuring the continuation of his master's dreams and ambitions. Kimimaro was selected to be one of Orochimaru's next bodies because of the unparalleled physical abilities and good looks he possessed. However, Kimimaro died of his disease and was no longer useful to Orochimaru). Kimimaro thinks of Orochimaru as his father because he was the only to seem to care for him. Kimimaro was possibly the stongest Mist ninja in his generation giving him attack and defensive abilities, similar to that of Gaara's sand. Even though his verbal rudeness of his opponents, Kimimaro shows to have a sense of honor in battle, as shown when he stopped in the middle of the battle to let Lee to take his "medicine". The most notable trait that separates him from his four colleagues is rarely showed emotions other than surprise until Gaara insulted his faith in Orochimaru; causing to become enraged literally prior his death. Kimimaro's abilities were incredible, as he was said to be, in his prime, just as powerful as Orochimaru himself. Another feat demonstrating his tremendous power was his capability of easily stopping Jugo whenever he would go on a rampage. His abilites made him well suited for close combat fighting, demonstrating tremendous taijutsu prowess combined with equally impressive speed and dexterity. According Rock Lee, Kimimaro's close-range prowess allows him to easily dodge without a single wasted movement. He has also shown capable of fighting a mid and long-distance as well. His abilities come from his Bloodline Limit Shikotsumyaku, which allows the user to manipulate their own skeletal structure as a means of combat. Specifically, it allowed Kimimaro to combine his chakra with calcium, making his bones flexible as well as more durable than steel. Kimimaro used this ability to wield his bones as weapons, and could put them in the forms of taijutsu attacks (which he called dances) to give him a variety of abilities. Like many others of Orochimaru's closest followers, Kimimaro was given a Cursed Seal, which gives him greater power. He bears the Cursed Seal of Earth, which is said to be equal in power to the Heaven Seal branded on Sasuke and Anko. When in his Level 2 form, his appearance is similar to that of a dinosaur, with dark gray skin, six large bone spines protruding out of his back, and a long bone spiked tail. He also appears to have much greater control over his seal than any other character seen so far (with perhaps the exception of Sasuke who was able to actually perform partial transformations), since he was able to restrict its spread to his chest in order to grant him a greater surge of power without activating it fully. Despite his incredible power, Kimimaro eventually became far less useful to Orochimaru after an unknown disease left him bedridden. However, even with one foot on the grave, he still easily proved to be a very dangerous opponent, as shown by his capability of easily holding off a basic Demon Fox Form Naruto (who had strength and speed that easily put him on par with any Jonin), an intoxicated Rock Lee (even Might Guy, a High-Level Jonin of Konoha admitted that Lee was dangerous in his intoxicated state), and Gaara (who was by far the strongest shinobi in Sunagakure at the time). It should be noted that Kimimaro was never actually defeated by any of them, and would not have lost if not for his disease.
