What is the most encouraging thing you have read. Why do you think it was so encouraging. Also has it become your personal philosophy? If not then what is your personal philosophy?

To me it's one that i say to myself.
"Life is never fair no matter what you do. All you can do is make it less unbearable, or find peace with you and your surroundings" -Pagsar
I feel that saying helps me with my philosophies on life and in any circumstance.

I haven't really read anything and I don't really have a sentence to cram my whole philosophy in but..

Learn to not take everything for granted. There's always someone out there who doesn't have what you have, and is having a harder time living than you, so don't be a ***** and be happy with what you have and with what you don't have.

For me, these things just naturally come to me. You just have to find it in your mind, I guess. Of course, it's really all just common sense.

this encourages me to work harder for me to achieve my goal.

but whenever I feel lazy, I add something to the statement.
Practice makes perfect but then nobody is perfect, why practice?

Actions speak louder than words.
A person who acts kind, has blessings to share.
A person who acts rude, has ignorance to hide.
a person who act funny, has joy to spread.
A person who is blunt, has anger to brood.
A person who is crying, has tears to shed.
A person who is serious, has troubles to forget.

I actually made that up just now.
I have a Bachelors in English Language.

Well it does make sense, to the extent that if you want to achieve perfection it makes sense to just give up, but if one practices to get better like you said, that statement is of no use.

Aw, you wanna see some of my favorite quotes from the bible?

If a man still prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall say to him, "You shall not live, because you have spoken a lie in the name of the Lord." When he prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall thrust him through. (Zechariah 13:3 NAB)

Meanwhile, the LORD instructed one of the group of prophets to say to another man, "Strike me!" But the man refused to strike the prophet. Then the prophet told him, "Because you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, a lion will kill you as soon as you leave me." And sure enough, when he had gone, a lion attacked and killed him. (1 Kings 20:35-36 NLT)

Oh, and here's some delicious rape:

They must be dividing the spoils they took: there must be a damsel or two for each man, Spoils of dyed cloth as Sisera's spoil, an ornate shawl or two for me in the spoil. (Judges 5:30 NAB)

Also are you not the same person who typed retarded-ly and used "nigga" all the time? And you're an English Language major? C'mon now, who are you kidding?

For instance a person who is blunt is not hiding anger. Often bluntness is the best way to avoid confrontation and to help the other person. A person who is serious does not have to forget troubles. Perhaps they love music and don't like when someone makes fun of their work: they're not serious because they have to forget something; they're serious because they want to do their best. Also some of the most funny people are bitingly sarcastic and are not there to bring joy but to inflict pain.

I didn't study in the North American educational system. I studied in the Carribbean which follows the English grading system. But in the caribbean its referred to as CXC or CSEC. Basically, you pick ALL the sudies you wish to pursue and at the end of High School, depending one how high you pass determines the degree you have. I passed English in range One on O level examinations which equates to a college bachelor degree. Understand the system before you knock it. Its a very complicated system, I think i can refer you a link to check it out.

The fact that you can get the equivalent of a college degree from basically passing HS. I googled it. Basically what I got from it is that you get a certification from the CXC and it is used as credit to a University and it isn't even all Universities which makes me believe that it isn't that reliable of a system. If it was available for universal credit then I would think differently.

Secondly, the fact that the school system over there may be different. You say college degree, that might mean first year in college over here.

I only went to grade 11. Which qualifies as completing basic college, but depending on the range you pass it in( English was range 1 which is the highest) depends on how much college you have completed. Range 1 means a full mastery in all basics and a good grasp on all Advanced aspects. Make a thread for our discussion if you want to continue as we are spamming this one, or you can PM me.

I don't know if this has anything to do with what you all are talking about, but I know that if you can't get into medical/veterinarian school in the US, you can apply to schools in the Carribean... they'll take anyone with enough money. Someone I knew didn't even apply and had already been accepted in the US, and she kept getting letters from this school in the Carribean telling her she was the "perfect candidate" and stuff.

My sister also had to have rotations with graduates from the Carribean schools, and she said most of them (despite having been on rotations for 6 months a head of her) were slightly retarded and totally lazy. Carribean graduate schools don't have a very good rap... as far as I've heard.

I WILL say that according to most of the people I know from outside the US, our public educational system IS crap compared to other countries (referring here to secondary education, and PUBLIC secondary at that). Had a friend in college that went to highschool in Korea, and he said a lot of his classes in college were below the levels of those he had in high school there.

I don't know.... but I STILL agree that you don't get a "degree" from passing high school, not by most country's standards.

So I guess women aren't included in that statement.... or at least they don't have to do anything. ;)

Here are a couple of things I've found over the years that I enjoy.

"Life is just a chance to grow a soul." -A. Powell Davies

I would adapt that to say, "Life is just a chance to grow our souls." Meaning... enhance or improve upon my existing soul.

So I guess women aren't included in that statement.... or at least they don't have to do anything. ;)
Nope, it's figure of speech.

I know... it was.... just supposed to be funny.... I'm not like some sort of wacked-out feminist.

On a similar note, my old coach used to want to say "balls to the walls" but... he had to settle on "ovaries to the stovaries!" It didn't make sense, but we got the idea. It meant... uh.... go all out. I think.

True dat. And sounds like a grammy-worthy song to me. I shall look it up for us.

EDIT: It IS a song, by the artist "Accept" (whoever that is....) And I don't know which came first, the song or the saying. But here are the lyrics. They are fairly humorous. And of course by humorous I mean... disturbing.

Too many slaves in this world
Die by torture and pain
Too many people do not see
Theyre killing themselves - going insane

Too many people do not know
Bondage is over the human race
They believe slaves always lose
And this fear keeps them down

Watch the damned (God bless ya)
Theyre gonna break their chains (hey)
No, you cant stop them (God bless ya)
Theyre coming to get you
And then youll get your

Balls to the wall, man
Balls to the wall
Youll get your balls to the wall, man
Balls to the wall - balls to the wall

You may screw their brains
You may sacrifice them, too
You may mortify their flesh
You may rape them all

One day the tortured stand up
And revolt against the evil
They make you drink your blood
And tear yourself to pieces

You better watch the damned (God bless ya)
Theyre gonna break their chains (hey)
No, you cant stop them (God bless ya)
Theyre coming to get you
And then youll get your

Balls to the wall, man
Balls to the wall
Youll get your balls to the wall, man
Balls to the wall - balls to the wall

Come on man, lets stand up all over the world
Lets plug a bomb in everyones arse
If they dont keep us alive - were gonna fight for the right

Build a wall with the bodies of the dead - and youre saved
Make the world scared - come on, show me the sign of victory
Sign of victory - sign of victory

You better watch the damned (God bless ya)
Theyre gonna break their chains (hey)
No, you cant stop them (God bless ya)
Theyre coming to get you
And then youll get your

Balls to the wall, man
Balls to the wall
