View Full Version : Girl, 4 years old, hangs herself with hairband 'as she copies TV cartoon'

A couple who found their daughter hanging by her hairband in a freak accident believe she was trying to copy a stunt from her favourite cartoon series.
Phil Brown and Lorraine Ford, 26, tried desperately to save four-year-old Paige when they discovered her in her bedroom but were unable to revive her.
Paige had recently watched a scene in which a character was swinging around with what looked like a rope attached to his neck.

Poor girl, and stupid cartoons.

In this case I blame the cartoon and the parents. If a cartoon thats meant for children has such scenes in it, then the rating should be bumped up to C8 or Y. The girl is young, her parents should have been checking up on her and paying attention to what their child is doing.

It's funny and sad how a spin-off of Dora the Explorer actually showed something like that

personally i blame the show, and the little girl. it even showed he had back support, this new generation of kids should be able to tell right from wrong. the older generation had tom and jerry to grow up with. that was much wilder than go diego go.

when i was four i had enough brains to know right from wrong. i knew that doin a hair brained stunt like that would of been stupid. using age isnt an excuse. it was an accident though

LOL... when I was 4... well... actually I dont remember much... I'll admit the kid shouldve known that was not a smart stunt... but the kid was probably thinking "Hey Im going to hav an adventure like Diego!!!"... not... "Hey... is it logical for me to do this... even if Im 4.. there will be consequences..." imagination can be very dangerous...

I don't normally blame the show. Its usually the child or the parents. Its tragic and sad, but they shouldn't leave a girl that young alone for such a long period of time. After 3 minutes of being strangelled, you go unconcious, and about 8 minutes you're pretty much dead. So that was a long period of time for her to be alone.

Giving blame won't accomplish anything. What is done is done, who was more at fault in this accident does not matter. Hearing that made me pretty sad. Poor girl.:(

WELL if i were to have an adventure like diego i would of payed attention to what he was using while coming down! i would of noticed that he was wearing back support and put some blanket to support my back or sumthin. but i also blame the parents cause even if i tried the attempt my mom or dad would of yelled at me for pulling off the blankets off the bed and for trying something that stupid

When I was four I shoved a cotton ball up my nose and my mom panicked and called my uncle, we were living in an apartment, and he came and my mom held me down while he used tweezers to get it out. XD
So I guess its sad cause four year olds are still kinda dumb. I feel really bad for her and the parents.
I've always been fascinated by the Parent-Child connection.

I agree.I feel bad for that poor girl.:cry:She was 4,how was she supposed to know?
How the **** did the hairband keep her up. Most hairbands are thin and can broken if pulled like a rubberband and for being 4 years old and probably around 50-65 pounds should have not been injured and just fallen. How also would the girl get herself high enough to do the hanging. This "accident" to me is starting to sound less like an accident.

It's unfortunate, but there's no changing the past. She's dead. It happened. We can't reverse that. The best thing we can do is hope that something like that won't happen again.

lol... that's fail.. never blame the show! it's always the persons who did the deeds fault!
it's not like the show takes ur hand and makes u do anything... the person does it on there on free will

but it influenced her so its partly the show's fault for attracting audiences

Normally, it'd be the reciever's fault. Influence is a vice, almost a sickness, but only the weak aren't able to draw away from it. Those who are infulenced to vices and other (for lack of a better word at the moment) evil things are pathetic. However, she was only four. No toddler's judgement is perfect, and that's why the parents should be there to keep her safe. But the parents can't watch over the cild all the time as Yoruichi16 stated. So without a strong source at fault for this terrible event, it can only be viewed as something that we hope won't happen again.

I agree with you too. By the way sweet new avatar makes you look much more Pycho, and much more Killer and much more Pycho Killer ;). Even though this is a tragedy that i'm deeply saddended by :(, it seems this girl must've been killed by other means since I highly doubt a hairband could support that much weight.

Actually, if my daughter or son was 4 years old, I'd be watching them. And you'd be a moron if you didn't. I'm not saying you have to watch them 24/7, but when she/he watches T.V, yeah I'd be watching them, but also because I loved them enough to look after them. :)
Poor little girl.. She wasn't ready to go yet.

Poor girl, and stupid cartoons.
Sux to blame anyone for this. Easiest and most comforting is to "blame" . Blame could make it easier for the parents to handle. It was "our" fault NO it wasn't "OUR" fault. It was that stupid show. Whatever helps them through this terrible moment NO ONE should go through, I'm all for it. But it's REALLY "EVERYONE"S FAULT" the show, the parents. And sometimes sheet just happens and U can't make it NOT happen. Thta's why "BLAME" helps people get through times like this.
