but who here also hates 'BELIEVE IT!' and what would you like to do to the VA next time she makes naruto mutter these ill-fated words? Another thing: any ideas for what to fill the mouth to say instead? I figure since the series is japanese anyways they might just (ONLY SOMTIMES) have him still say 'dattabayo' like he does in the japanese one...well?

Not every one in this country loves anime enough to go online and watch the Japanese version of the show. Most of the people who watch Naruto on TV in the US are the kids who have little to no idea what anime is, and who have little to no knowledge of anything to do with Japan. Thus, how would it make sense for the English dub, created for English-speaking American children, to have a Japanese catchphrase?

Well I have to say that its not that I didnt find it catchy, believe it!

I think Believe it is cute!!! <333 Although, he stopped saying it because people complained. I am glad of that too, actually. It was cute, but then it got old.

And saying "dattebayo" in an ENGLISH dub is a bad idea.

dattebayo has no close english translation, thats why they made up "Believe it" instead of translating dattebayo.

I really actually dont hate "believe-it" anymore... I realized that if the dub Naruto said "Dattebayo" it would ummm... sound kinda lame... :laugh: they had to come up with some kind of alternative word... and believe it was around the same amount of syllables... so whether u love it or hate it... yeah 'believe it' is lame.. but supposedly they had to do something.. i understand and even appreciate whoever dubs naruto them trying to fit english with their mouth movements... but what i don't understand is why they are trying to target this anime towards children...

i got hooked on naruto by seeing a marathon on cartoon network... then i looked up the japanese ones online because my cousin and my nephew said i just have to see them subbed... and yeah way better... watch an episode on cartoon network... then watch the exact episode in japanese online and you will understand...

oh yeah, watch out for the uneccessary censoring you see on cartoon network... you miss quite a bit with the crappy censoring... a classic example and the reason i haven't watched cartoon network since... when lee is fighting kimimaro and drinks the sake... yes it is sake... sake...alcohol... when lee drinks alcohol he goes a little crazy... but because they are marketing this towards children, and they don't want children to think drinking is funny (btw it is hella funny :cool:), they had lee drinking an elixir or something?? can't even remember, that's how lame it was... so it is okay for teenagers to kick the crap out of each other and kill one another, but heaven forbid one accidentally drinks alcohol??

oh yeah, if you just have to hear it in english then buy the uncut episodes, not as good as the subs but they are uncut.. no censorship...
