Here in California, student's from grades 7th to 11th are forced to take a standardized test (STARS). Overall, the tests are retarded. They have no actual meaning and the government expects us to answer questions about topics we don't even discuss. They don't even let us (the students) or the teachers know what we are tested on. It's stupid. They expect students to get high scores, yet they lower our standards.
ELD students are given HIGHER expectations in Language though they know that they are barely learning the english language. Does this make sense? (No.)
Shouldn't ELD students have a LOWER standard? After all, they are just learning our language.
Those incharge of the making of the STARS test give out harder test to the students who are not at the required level. Does THAT make sense? (NO.)
Another thing, no one knows what the test is about. Yes, we know the subjects, but we don't know the actual areas within that subject. When we have to study, we are studying blindly, we don't even know if we are going to have a test on it.
There are many more problems with this testing and other, but I don't have enough time to type them. (I'm currently in school.)
The only reason why I posted this is because I need your opinion... Should the students of Baldwin Park High School (and hopefully other schools) take this problem to the higher authority?
