I have a project at school which I am working on that requires me to figure out how to determine the percentage of an image that is a certain color. My partner is the one who knows Photoshop, so he's been able to get the contrast up to the point where we have straight black and white on the picture. However, he's still not terribly adept with the program so I need a simple step by step tutorial on how to do this.
I will reiterate the task here:
How does one find out what percentage of an image is black or white in Photoshop?

Uhm, I think I know what you mean. You want to check the percentages on an existing image? If so open the image and then select the eye dropper tool. It's that thing which allows you to click on the pic and the color is instantly picked up. After that right click the paint bucket tool and it might tell you the percentages depending on what version of photoshop you have.
I'd ask buh-lake as well

I am pretty sure that it's CS2. Also, it seems that I may not have been totally clear...
If I have a pure white image, the image is 100% white right? If I then color half of it black, the image is now 50% white and 50% black. I need to determine what those percentages are for an image that is not easy to find the area of.

We figured out how to do it.
Apparently in the Levels dialog box there's a histogram that shows the number of black, grey toned, and white pixels so we used that to find the area of the image. Thanks for the attempts guys.
